BACKGROUND:
Controller will manage the accounting group and accounts payable. This position will work closely with treasury in understanding RED’s banking relationships. The Controller will work closely with the CFO and senior management on forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting. This position requires an individual whose strengths include extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, the ability to implement new processes, strong leadership skills, and the ability to recognize organizational and operational inefficiencies and work to improve them.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate the monthly close process: (i) Forecasting monthly results, (ii) Ensuring all transactions are appropriately recorded in the general ledger, (iii) Analyzing actual results vs forecast and budget, (iv) reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations, and (iv) reporting results to management and investors. 2. Prepare and/or review financial reports and perform data analysis for all RED companies. These reports include standard monthly financial statements as well as critical management reporting information. 3. Coordinate the audits of the mortgage company, broker/dealer, and holding company including coordination of testing with auditors and preparation of financial statements and footnotes. 4. Ensure identified SOX controls are in place and accounting policies and procedures are adequately documented. 5. Coordinate periodic compliance reporting to Agencies (ie., Fannie Mae, Ginnie Mae, Freddie Mac), banks, and to regulatory bodies (ie. FINRA). 6. Monitor compliance with Agency requirements for Net Worth, Liquidity, Letters of Credit and Insurance. 7. Have a thorough understanding of critical accounting areas (ie., Derivatives, Mortgage Servicing Rights, Reserves, etc.) to enable proper application of GAAP and review the monthly analyses for preparation of the journal entries. 8. Work with the CFO and accounting management group to improve the overall financial operations and efficiency of the accounting team. 9. Work with CFO, lines of business, and parent company in preparation of the budget. 10. Work with CFO and accounting group in reporting line of business results and activity for use in incentive compensation process. 11. Review cash activity and release. Review daily wire and ACH requests for propriety and accuracy, especially with regards to policies and procedures for cash controls. 12. Assist CFO with special projects from time to time, particularly in regards to compiling and analyzing financial data.

Requirements |

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s degree with an accounting major required. 2. Financial Operations Principal (Series 27) . If the individual does not possess the license at time of hire, he/she is required to obtain the license within six months of employment. 3. CPA required. 4. Five years experience in public accounting or a real estate related industry (Commercial mortgage banking and broker/dealer). 5. Knowledge of Fannie Mae, FHA, Ginnie Mae, and Freddie Mac a plus. Knowledge of securities transactions a plus. 6. Experience in managing accounting staff. 7. Experience with forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting. 8. Knowledge of General Ledger accounting systems. Experience with Epicor is a plus. 9. Ability to work well under pressure and adjust to varied workloads. 10. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
